Frequently Asked Questions
TIIM is an application developed by the BMS Lab. It is used to conduct longitudinal, cohort, and/or questionnaires studies on a group of participants. The participants then are able to answer the questions on the TIIM application on their IOS or Android phone.
1. Go to https://bmslab.utwente.nl/get-started/
2. Sign-up for a new project or reserve an existing one
Note: You need ethical approval before using TIIM
3. Fill in the form
4. Go to the reservation page to reserve the TIIM tool
5. In the menu on the left side, click on “software”
6. Add “TIIM” to your cart
7. Go to https://dashboard.tech4people-apps.bms.utwente.nl
8. Using your UT account, register an account on the “BMS lab dashboard” (back-end/management of the TIIM application)
9. Wait for the BMS Lab approval. This takes place during the first opportunity (Tuesday or Thursday).

2. Login with your account
3. On the right side of the dashboard page, click “start a new study”
4. Click on the button “TIIM survey”
5. Click on “create new study”
Participants can subscribe via the subscription URL. This can be done in two ways:
1. Through the Study Home page
1a. On the left menu, click on the tab called “Study Home”
1b. Copy the subscription link under “Enrollment URL”
1c. Share this URL with your participants
OR
2. Through Subscription Page
2a. On the left menu, click on the tab called “Subscription”
2b. Copy the subscription link under “URL to subscription page”
2c. Share this URL with your participants
When the participant wants to fill in their details, it is not possible to click on the grey word that details which information they have to fill in. They should either click on the right of the word or on the grey bar underneath it.
The email is sent by the BMS Lab email account, yet the participant will see it as if the e-mail had been sent by the researcher who created the study. This will allow the participant to reply to the researcher.
1. Open your study
2. On the left menu, click on the tab called “Participants”
3. Select the participant you want to send a push notification to
4. On the top right side of the screen click on “send notification”
5. Type the message you want to send
6. Click on “send notification”
7. The participant will receive the notification soon on their smartphone through the TIIM application
Note: the participant needs to have the TIIM application installed on their smartphone, logged in on their account, and the push notifications enabled in the TIIM application settings.
1. Open your study
2. On the left menu, click on the tab called “Interventions”
3. Open the intervention you want to add a module to
4. On the upper right click on “modules”
5. Click on the field “select a module”
6. In the dropdown field, select the module you want to add
7. Click on the button “+ ADD”
8. You have now linked a module to your intervention
You can create an equation based on the functions and use the list of formulas to create calculated variables easier.

It is possible to re-open the study after the end date. In the study details, you can change when the study begins and ends and under the subscription page you can decide when to open and end the subscription. The subscription date can be shorter than the study date.
1. In your study on the left menu, click on the tab called “Metrics”
2. On the upper right side of the screen click on “download”
3 Download the intervention and/or module
3a. Click on “download” next to the intervention

3b1. Select the module
3b2. Click on “download” next to the module

1. Open Excel
2. In the upper row, click on “data”
3. On the left, click on “Get & Transform Data”
4. Select from text/CVS
5. Choose your file
6. Click on “import”
7. Select “delimited” as a comma in order to import the data in Excel within divided columns
8. Click on “load” and your data will appear in a new Excel workbook

1. Open SPSS
2. Go to file
3. Select “Open” in the dropdown menu
4. Select “Data” in the dropdown submenu
Note: This will open a new window.
5. Select and open your data
Note: Make sure your files type is set to CVS.
6. “Text Import Wizard” opens
6a. In the first step, you don’t change any of the settings and click on the “Next” button
6b. In the second step, set the variables arranged to “Delimited”, set the question “Are variable names included at the top of your file” to “Yes”, and click on the “Next” button
6c. In the third step, set “the first cases of data begins on which line number” to “2” and click on the “Next” button
6d. In the fourth step, set the delimiter to a comma and click on the “Next” button
6e. In the fifth and sixth step, you don’t change any of the settings
6f. After the sixth step, click on the “Finish” button
7. Your data will appear in a new SPSS worksheet
