Data management is an essential part of doing research. Both the University and BMS faculty have extensive guidelines and best practises. As a result, researchers and students often need data storage or processing facilities for their research. Moreover, hardware owned by researchers is often not up to the job and expensive to acquire. The BMS lab therefore provides data storage and processing services to those that have a project signed up. Use this page to learn more and to request the service you need.
What the BMS lab offers
The basic offering consists of three main services. Variations are of course possible and special requests can be made. Please use the form below for this as well.
Data storage: Secure, centralised and remotely accessible data storage for your research project. This data storage meets the UT’s requirements and is easily accessible using your student or employee credentials and the UT VPN. It thus helps researchers and students meet the expectations placed upon them regarding data management. There currently is no maximum size for data storage. Need more than 30 Gigabytes of storage? Then please include a realistic estimate of your storage needs in the comments of the form below.
Mobile data storage: Often researchers need decentralised storage. Whether that be while they are collecting data or when transporting data to another party. The BMS lab provides secure mobile (USB) storage devices for research.
Data processing: Research at the university of Twente can become quite technical and require strong computers to process the data. Whether researchers are involved with modelling, rendering, collecting data or other forms of data processing, the lab can offer access to powerful hardware. Both centralised (server) and decentralised (HPCs).
Not sure what is needed or feasible?
Are your project requirements uncertain? Are you unfamiliar with technical needs? Or, is your request currently outside of the available possibilities? Then please contact the BMS lab for a meeting. The BMS lab regularly acquires new equipment for research and has contacts throughout the universities with experts of data usage.
